Duane was having a hard time deciding between a set of CB-57's or the MB-001's... trust me I know the feeling... you want a blade in your attack irons but some feel that cavity backs will help you in the longer irons. I suggested we do a split set, so we went with CB-57's in 4-5-6 and the MB-001 Blades in 7-P. We even went a little further and soft stepped the entire set by 1 soft step which lightens the flex of the shaft by approx. 1/3 of a flex, raises launch by a degree or 2 and can also increase spin.
These were built in KBS Tour V X-Flex shafts. With a 1 soft step process, the 6 iron had a frequency of 324 CPM's in a 5” clamp, gripped at 37.5” - that equates to about 6.0 in Rifle speak, in terms of stiffness. They were Spin & Flo'd at standard length.
We also threw on some Golf Pride New Decade Multi Compound Cord grips in black and white.
I did do something new with the lofts and lies, I adjusted them all 2 degrees flat, (well that’s not new), but we adjusted the 4 iron 1 degree strong from 24 degrees to 23 degrees, and adjusted the 5 iron ½ a degree strong from 27 degrees to 26.5 degrees.
For those that may be interested in the size difference between the two model heads and how a split set might transition from the cavity to the blade check out this post on (title link)
